What is the best Mercedes-Benz vehicle for off-road use?

To go off-roading, and have fun while you’re doing it, you will need a Mercedes-Benz with some height to it. Obviously a Sprinter cargo van or a Metris passenger van won’t do the trick. Actually, every Mercedes-Benz SUV is off-road ready, but one stands out among all the rest as the most dirt-ready Mercedes-Benz of all time. It is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4², and it will be available in the United States within one year!

Entry Level G550?

If you are a G-Class expert, you may recognize the G550 as the entry-level G-Class trim. It is much more affordable than the G65, but it comes with a different engine and about half of the features you get in an AMG model. So why is the G550 4×4² the best Mercedes-Benz vehicle for off-road use? It’s because it is raised by almost 8 inches!

G550 vs AMG G65

The trims between the G-Class do not really change the exterior look of the iconic SUV, but they do change what the vehicle is made for, significantly. Sure, the G65 will hold its own off the road, but where it really shines is the road, where it’s 738 lb-ft of torque and big wheels make Porsches look like turtles! If you really want to go off-roading, the G550 4×4² will have the easiest time getting over rugged terrain and you will have more fun doing it. Would you really want to risk hurting your G65 after spending a quarter of a million dollars on it, anyway? That’s what we thought.
